Helvetica Squish - Typography
This typography project developed as a result of some visual experiments with a washing up sponge. I wanted to explore the physical manipulation of letterforms, with the possibility for creating endless shapes and forms, and how this manipulation can change the legibility of the letter. How far can we alter its shape before it becomes unfamiliar?
Exploring this idea I used a UV printer to print the alphabet on a set of washing up sponges. I then produced a series of posters and GIFS that demonstrate the typefaces which resulted after different types of physical manipulation of the sponges.
